(YES) the great band ... a question to real fans ?

YES is one of my all-time favorite artists . I view them as ideal musicians in every meaning and to me , they are among nature's best artists like painters and classic musicians . However ; I have a question to all YES fans like me who looks the other way when the concepts (90125 , Progressive Pop , 80s beat) are mentioned .

My question is : are we supposed to be true with ourselves and say that there are two phases of YES (the great Progressive 70s perfection band) and (the mainstream 80s Poppish band) ?
or
YES is a various perfection seekers band that masters many sub-genres and fit in any generation ?
